CHAPTER SIX
KENNY WAVED JACK into the office. His business partner sat down and waited until Kenny hung up the phone.
âYou make your calls?â he asked.
Jack nodded. âThey mostly donât care. For some reason they think you can do as good a job. Idiots.â
âYouâd be happier if they were threatening to leave the company?â Kenny asked with a grin.
âYou know it.â
Jack was leaving Score at the end of the year. Although heâd been a founding partner with Taryn, heâd been offered a coaching job at Cal U Foolâs Gold. And not just any coaching job. He was going to start the football program, from the ground up. A challenging project, but one Jack would see to the end. Kenny was confident the Cal UFG Warriors would have a winning season within three years of their first game.
In the meantime, Jack was contacting all their clients and letting them know he was moving on. Kenny followed up to assure them that he was committed to staying with Score. So far no one had minded about the change.
âItâs going to be strange not to be here anymore,â Jack told him. âBut Iâm excited about whatâs ahead of me.â
âLet me know if you need any help.â
âYou want to coach?â
âNo,â Kenny said with a laugh. âBut Iâm happy to listen and offer advice.â
âSam said the same thing,â Jack admitted. âYouâre good men.â
Kenny held up a hand. âYouâre not going to turn into a woman, are you? And start talking about your feelings?â
âNo. Sam and Dellina and Larissa and I are thinking of going up to Henriâs for a fancy dinner.â Jack rolled his eyes. âLarissa says they decorate the whole resort and she wants to see it. Dellina agrees. Sam and I are going along because we love our women. You two want to join us?â
Kenny frowned at his friend. You two? As inâ¦
âYou and Bailey,â Jack clarified. âBefore she left, Taryn mentioned the two of you were working on the toy drive together. Sheâs fun, right?â He shook his head. âOr is it a problem because of Chloe?â
Because Jack knew about Kennyâs past and how he avoided single mothers.
âWeâre friends,â Kenny said. âI could ask her if sheâd like to go.â
âItâs up to you. You could fly in one of your models. Of course the dinner would be wasted. Doesnât it bother you how they only fake eat? No actual food passes their lips.â
âJust because youâre engaged to a regular woman now, donât pretend you didnât date models in your day.â
Jackâs smile turned smug. âI dated everyone in my day. Iâve matured and I know better now. I have the best woman on the planet and Iâm going to do everything in my power to make her happy for the rest of her life. That and win a national football championship.â
âAs long as you have your priorities,â Kenny said. âIâll talk to Bailey and let you know what she says.â
âGood.â
Jack rose and left.
Kenny tried to return his attention to his computer, but what he saw instead of the screen was Bailey.
